Spoiler Alert

Alas! In the real world of cycling, there is only one Spartacus. And even the Romans - and the French, and the Flandrians, and the Dutch - know exactly who he is. Someday, the rest of us will maybe get over our Grand Tour fixation and realize the guy is "The Next Armstrong."

Just damn.

Cance isn't the next Lance. He's the first - and only - Spartacus.

Hail, Spartacus.

He's the guy I most admire in cycling. I picked him to win in Johan Bruyneel's web site. I may have won one of his new Cobbles t-shirts. At least I've got that going for me..

Well, Jacob, that's what I meant by "The Next Armstrong." He's not Armstrong, he's Cancellara, and that's a name we should be discussing about nominating to the pantheon. Our silly fixation on one kind of race causes us to overlook a guy who is great in a variety of disciplines. Anybody who isn't at least highly respectful of Cancellara and his versatile performances in a range of races is either not paying attention to what is happening right in front of us, or dumb.

Boz, I could see that. He's a strong racer, and modest. But here's why I hate doping and what it does to us, and our relationship with the sport.*

* - everything I just said could be the product of pharmaceuticals. Way to go, doping assholes!

I think the Pantheon-membership discussion is pretty much settled.

I think the only remaining question is which seat he occupies. To the left or right hand of Merckx?

3 of 5 Monuments. TT World Champion. TT Olympic Gold. Anybody want to bet against (a) RR Olympic Gold, (b) RR World's (c) Liege and Lombardia?

He'd have to cut off a leg to win a Grand Tour, but short of that, there's not much Tony Spartacus can't do.

And what did Armstrong say? Nice to do the race and look over the route to see what it was like to race on the cobbles for the tour...

Lance is a one race wonder. Give the real racers their day Jim.
