Feels Like Monday...

I have nothing to say, really, other than to express my bewilderment at finding the Baker's Dozen registration full a mere two hours after it opened. Guess I'm going to have to settle on another 12 hour solo as one of my training goals this year.

Ps. My mountain biking friends, if you ever wondered what it feels like to be a roadracer, this is a good place to start the discussion.

Pps. The back is healing slowly. Looks like degenerative disc problems to go along with a broken ass (torn muscle). More tests to follow but it appears that a couple lumbar vertebrae are pinching the sciatic nerve and some other soft tissue, and probably have been for a long time, only hitting a crisis point when I messed up my butt the other week. Not sure how I'm going to cope with the disc issue yet. Start doing a lot of core strength work?

BD had 275 people in the first 15 minutes, which may be faster than even Jeff Cup. I started registering me/ken/jean right at noon, and in the time it took me to fill in Ken and Jean's info and then fill in the credit card etc, there were already 275 people registered.

Sciatic nerve issues can definitely feel like a muscle in your ass issue. I used to get that when I played golf every day.

exactly what scott said.
I had my teammates info typed out in a word doc, and w/ copy and paste we were in by 12:05, and 127 spots were already filled.

Hang in there Jim, I'm sure something will open up, get on the wait list, watch someone will bail out..

Jim,

Hang in there, it does get better. I was diagnosed with the same problem. Degenerative disk disease, and a pinched sciatic nerve. Only thing is, and I am sorry to tell you this, is I started dealing with this several years ago... Here's what I found:

The pain will go away sometimes. Most times, it's like a tolerable dull ache that is always there. It's not painful per se, just constant.

Core training will help, but be careful when stretching out. It is VERY easy to re-injure yourself if you're not fully healed.

With that said, I've been able to have a lot of fun on the bike, despite the back thing.

That's just my experience. If you find something that works for you and the pain goes away. Please feel free to share...

Hope you get better soon.

Jim, Same thing happened to me two years ago and then I tweaked it again at Charm City, causing me to be out for Ed Sanders, BVA, and Kelley Acres and only about 30% the week of our race in Hyattsville.

Yoga has helped immensly with both the core and the easy streatching. AVOID surgery if you can. Every doctor I talked with said it was an option but once you go in it will never be the same.

Good luck.

5 years of pulling slips on an offshore triple, 3 years of shoveling tandem after tandem of gravel over water and sewer lines and then another 5 years of being bent over sorting 15,000 brick a day in a factory and 53 years of living did the vertebrae in my lower back in last month after my last cross race.

L5 disc popped and as you know it sucks. My toes on my left foot are still numb but I'm just getting back on the bike now on a trainer.

I've gotten the word from the doc and the CatScan backs it up Jim. Core work is the only way for me. I don't want removed discs and fused spines. Seen my Father in Law go through that, no thanks.

So low weight, good posture, core work and stretching are my mantra from here on. Good luck to you, I feel for you.
