It's Nice to Have Friends

Elden Nelson, the Fat Cyclist, is going through some tough times. He asked me to fill in on his blog for a day, and since I don't believe in arguing with people who could inadvertently eat me, and also completely kick my butt on a bike, I agreed. Check it out here.

For Fat Cyclist readers stopping by here, thanks for visiting. I tend to do a lot of rambling off-topic blogging, but if funny bike related stuff is your thing you'll find the "Best Of" us down on the right, you'll probably enjoy stuff like this (Cyclocross Practice Tips), this (Secret Landis Emails Prove Floyd's Innocence), or this (A Short History of Knickers). You might also enjoy the Cyclocross Horroscope I did for the State Island CX race that's going down next weekend - the post is immediately below this.

And just a reminder, all: The Tacchino Ciclocross is happing on Sunday at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg. Pre-registration is closed but there are spots open in all races, in spite of having our strongest pre-registration numbers in the history of the race. What do we have?
  • Belgian Beer Primes in the Masters Races
  • Mid-pack Sausage Primes. And Bacon!
  • Li'l Belgians race and multiple playgrounds on-site
  • Team-size jacuzzi and swimming pool, changing rooms (costs a couple bucks)
  • Food at the venue, plus many great places to eat "downtown"
  • Leesburg Outlets and antiquing for the shopping junkies
See you there friends. And thanks again, Fat Cyclist Readers, for stopping by.

I forgot to sign the anonymous blade runner comment.

Thanks Chris. I very much appreciate the show of force from you and the C3 Crew.

Botched Experiment - did I insert a Blade Runner reference in that post? I may have done so unwittingly. If not, I am curious what caused you to riff on it. I am not criticizing you - just curious.

I think your profile mentions the movie.

When I recently saw it again, it was on a plasma TV on an HD channel (at a law firm no less). It looked pretty good, but it reminded me of one of the first times I saw the movie on TV. It was so heavily edited that the scene Roy kills his creator jumps from Roy grabbing him and kissing him to Roy walking away. I was so confused. And uncomfortable.

Anyway, I'm hardly a Blade Runner afficianto, but it was the first movie I ever saw (at 12 or 13) that really blew my mind, so I've always kind of had a soft spot for it.

I'm working it. I froze today at Superior CX. I have my road bike in the trunk and will be doing a hour on it after Tacchino, seeing as Ida Lee sits right next to the WOD trail.

BE - yeah, it is a great film. Have you ever read any of Phillip K. Dick's works? I don't always agree with his world view (very Red Scare era civil libertarian / left) but he's always thought provoking. Dismal endings to most of his stories though; I bet he was no picnic to go get drunk with.

John - Awesome. See you there tomorrow. Pack a good windbreaker, the winds are higher there than most venues in this area.
