Race Results

BOONEN!
Takes it from Ballan and Cancellara after the three laid in a 35 Km breakaway.
Hincapie flatted for the second time 54k out, the group attacked when the High Road team car was slow to respond with a new rear wheel, gapping him by 1:30. He never regained the lead group, finished 9th after outsprinting a grupetto including the hard workin' Flecha.
Backstedt blew up in the Arenberg.
Maestent (sp?) of Slipstream took 4th, first member of the non-lead group to come in.
Major shoutouts to Cycling TV, who were having problems with logon; they put the race up on their website for free.

If it was 4 hours delay, I could see that.

A week plus 4 hours? Houston, we have a problem.

You want me, Velo News.com, Pez, Cycling News, Bike Radar, pretty much every bike blog that does roadracing, a lot of the web sales sites, and even the small print coverage on ESPN.com under the "more sports that nobody watches tab" to keep quiet for you for about a week, and also not mention this week's performances in predictions for next week's Amstel Gold Race?

Sure. My bad. I should have figured you'd hold off finding that out, in the hopes of catching a heavily redacted, Phil Liggett mailing-it-in-again version that might or might not be pre-empted for hockey, rodeo, or "Best of Tred Barta." Sorry, I won't do that again. Say, I didn't slip up by mentioning the Giants are Superbowl champs the other week, did I? 'Cuz it occurred to me you might have it on Tivo, and maybe you hadn't watched it yet. If that's the case, sorry.

Ps. I don't know who you are, but could you please keep on with the trolling like that? I try to come up with good stuff for the "Readers Write" thing I do once in a while. Thing is, I can't come up with anything more original than what you just laid on me. You expect a blogger to give you a week's embargo, with no prior notice? Funny. This, when Phil Liggett keeps dropping the winners' names mid-(tape delay) broadcast, and Trautwig has to remind him, 'but of course the race isn't over yet Phil'?

Dude, that's pure comedy gold. You should send me an invoice when you do that. It's a service. Really. Thanks.

Jim,

Back down off the poor dude. You've just met a man who not only has his head up his azz, but planned on keeping it there for a whole bloody week.

I taped the telecast and went to bed at a sensible (Oz) time. Even though I won't have time to watch it until Thursday, I went straight to cyclingnews.com this morning to see if Stuey defended his crown. I'll still watch the tape, and I'll still enjoy it, I just won't be sniffing the aroma of my own excrement for a week like Mr Anonymous.

I shouldn't be so harsh but you don't sandbag somebody. Had *anybody* commented they were going to watch the race and didn't want to hear about it until after next Sunday evening, at 8:00 PM or so, I'd have thought seriously about it. It's kind of like if a buddy starts dating a girl you like without you having told him that you like her - you have *no* grounds to ask him to hang fire, and no grounds to be upset about it.

Occasionally, I show flashes of sentience on this blog. The ability to foresee the future? No. Otherwise I'd be offering a weekly Can't Miss, Stone Cold Steel Pipe Lock Pick during the football season, and let you in on which NBA refs were going to blow calls, intentionally or unintentionally, during the upcoming playoffs.

I once saw a letter suggesting that VeloNews not make the winners of races so obvious in their web site headlines, since then-OLN was airing delayed coverage. Seriously. That's like asking the New York Times not to report a story because you'd like to watch it on Dateline later. I have a more blown rant on this in my head, but no time at the moment...
